P.E. NOTES! :D batchmates!!!

TERMINOLOGIES IN SOFTBALL

BASE PATH - An imaginary line 3 feet on either side of a direct line between bases.

BAT - The instrument used by a batter to strike the ball; it can either be wood or metal.

BATTER - The player on an offensive team who faces the pitcher.

BATTER'S BOX - The area adjacent to home plate to which the batter is restricted while facing the pitcher.

BATTING ORDER - The official listing of team's players in the sequence they will appear at the plate.

BUNT - A legally struck ball in which the hitter does not take a full swing and tries to keep the ball within the field.

CATCHER - The defensive player behind the home plate whose main responsibility is to receive balls thrown by the pitcher.

DOUBLE PLAY - When the defense retires two offensive players in continuous action.

FIELDER - Any player of the team in the field.

FIRST BASEMAN - The defensive player who covers the territory around first base.

FLY BALL - A ball that is hit into the air, usually to the outfield.

FOUL BALL - A batted ball that is judged not fair. (ang labo :|)

FULL COUNT - When there are three balls and two strikes on the hitter.

GROUNDER - A batted ball that hits the ground as it leaves the bat.

HIT - Reaching a base safely on a batted ball that is not misplayed by the defense.

HOME RUN - A base hit on which the batter touches all bases without the ball being misplayed.

INNING - A division of a game, divided into halves that allow each team to bat and field once a piece.

MITT - The glove worn by a catcher or first baseman in which the thumb portion is separate from the rest of the glove.

ON-DECK BATTER - The batter who follows the teammate who is at the plate.

OUT - The retirement of the batter or base runner.

SHORTSTOP  - The defensive player stationed in the infield on the left side of second base.

SLIDE - The act of a base runner sliding along the ground toward a base to prevent being put out.

STEAL - The advancement to the next base solely by base running, that is, without a hit necessarily being made.

STRIKE - A ball thrown by the pitcher which enters the strike zone.

TAG - The touching of a runner with the ball or with a glove that holds the ball, for the purpose of putting the runner out.

WALK - A base on balls. (what?!)

WILD PITCH - A ball legally delivered to the plate by the pitcher but so inaccurate that it cannot be controlled by the catcher.
