Mario: Our report!
Kid2: Report??
Luigi: YES!! About the history of video games!
Kids: boooriiiiing!
Mario: wateberrr! Let’s start!
Luigi: Video game… What exactly is a video game??
Mario: A video game is a game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device.
Luigi: Right… So how exactly did this thing get invented?
(kids, tulong kayo sa pagpapakita ng pics nung consoles at nung names ng people)
Mario: Well, a certain man named Estle Ray Mann and his friend Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. worked together to create the first ever interactive electronic game on a cathode ray tube. The game was a missile simulator inspired by radar displays in World War II. (Luigi just keep on nodding and keep the audience interested, pick your nose or something)
Luigi: On May 5, 1951, the NIMROD computer was presented at the Festival of Britain. It was designed to play the game NIM. NIM is a simple game, where you start with a number of piles of tokens — traditionally matches. Each player in turn takes one or more tokens from any one pile, and the game continues until the last token is taken from the last remaining pile. The simplest way of playing the game is when the winner is the one who takes the last item. (picture of NIMROD comp)
Mario: In 1952, Alexander S. Douglas made the first computer game to use a graphical display, OXO (Noughts and Crosses), for the EDSAC computer.
Luigi: In 1958, William Higinbotham made an interactive game named Tennis for Two for the Brookhaven National Laboratory's annual visitor's day. This display was meant to promote atomic power, and used an analog computer and the vector display system of an oscilloscope.
Mario: In 1961, MIT students Martin Graetz, Steve Russell, and Wayne Wiitanen created the game Spacewar! on a DEC PDP-1 computer which also used a vector display system.
Luigi: In 1966, Ralph Baer resumed work on an initial idea he had in 1951 to make an interactive game on a television set. The Brown Box, the last prototype of seven, was released in May 1972 by Magnavox under the name Odyssey. It was the first home video game console.
Mario: In 1971, Bill Pitts and Hugh Tuck developed the first coin-operated computer game, Galaxy Game, at Stanford University. Only one unit was ever built.
Luigi: Two months after that, Computer Space by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney was released, which was the first coin-operated video game to be commercially sold.
Pong, often thought of as the first video game, was not released until 1972, and the home version did not come out until 1975.
Mario: This game led to the creation of other great games.
Luigi: Video games underwent many alterations, changes and generations before they became the games that we play today.
Kid2: Are you done?? (look bored)
Mario: Yes.
Kid1: Great!! I’m getting bored, get back inside the TV! I wanna play!
Luigi: Such ungrateful children! Your mother will know about this! You little devils!
KIDS: whatever… (start playing again)
